The Power of Presence
Over the course of my career I've been fortunate to play in a lot of different sandboxes ranging from employee relations to total rewards to employee learning and all points in between - one of the highlights during all my years as an HR leader has been creating a management development program while I worked at one of the campuses for the university system in which I am still employed. Without going into a bunch of unnecessary details, let's just say the program that existed previously was in a bit of a dormancy and in need of some reimagining - what had been three days once a year of reluctant managers locked (figuratively, not literally) inside a training room learning about the pitfalls of FMLA, a rehashing of Maslow's "Hierarchy of Needs," and some very detailed discussions on the nuances of processing HR paperwork evolved into a six-month cohort based program focused (as much as I could) on interaction, network building, and integrated learning - and then smack dab in the middle of those six months we inserted the aptly named "midway forum" ... read the rest at LinkedIn.
